Transcript

This transcript covers my undergraduate, as well as my course selections for my Bachelor of Education program. It will be updated as more course grades become availible.

Current as of October 2012.

Placement 1: English Classroom

During this placement I worked under Angela Manios at Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute in Toronto, ON. This assessment reflects my work in October 2012 in an Applied Grade 9 English classroom of 16 students. Specifically, it reflects work teaching the writing and reading of newspaper articles.

Placement 2: English Classroom

This placement is a continuation of my first, working again with Angela Manios at Alber Campbell. However, during this placement, I taught two classes of Academic Grade 9 English, focusing on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as a single class of Applied Grade 9 English focusing on the Essay and Mythology.

Placement 3: History Classroom

This placement was with Graham Bye, again at Albert Campbell. This four week teaching experience had me teaching four classes - a Grade 10 Academic History class, where I taught The First World War; a Grade 10 ESL History Class, where I taught Canada from the Federation to the end of the First World War; a Grade 10 Open Civics class, where I taught Federalism and Current Events; and, finally, a Grade 12 University History Course title "The West and the World", where I taught the Renaissance, as well as the reading and understanding of Primary Source Documents.

Overall Placement Report

This overall report is written by my practicum professor, Frank Halligan, who had the opportunity to view me teaching in both my English and History practicums. It reflects my teaching practices across both subjecs.

Alternate Practicum 1: Homeschool Program

This alternate practicum was done under Carol Cooke, a teacher at Westwood Middle School in Toronto, ON. During my two weeks here, I taught in a homeschool environment where 10 exceptional students were pulled out of their regular Grade 6 class for the morning and taught a modified curriculum of Math, Social Studies and English. In the afternoons, I taught Health, specifically a unit on the changing body and sexual education, as well as helping to teach science classes.

Alternate Practicum 2: Research Assistant

During this alternate practicum, completed during March Break 2013, I worked for a Graduate student in the Faculty of Education at Queen's, Jennifer Dods, in completing research for her PhD. I researched Mental Health components of various teacher education programs in Ontario.

Having seen me teach in a variety of classrooms, as well as seeing my coaching abilities during various seasons of football in the Kingston School Board, Frank is in a fantastic position to give an idea of my teaching abilities.

Graham Bye, Teacher, Toronto District School Board

This reference letter, written by Graham Bye, is a great example of my teaching abilities. During my four weeks working with Graham, I was in a position to show off many of my unique skills as a teacher and educator, and Graham comments on them here.
