Assignments
The following are assignments, developed by myself, which assess students on a variety of key curriculum expecations in History and English courses. As with the lessons page, if you would like to see a PDF of the assignment, click on the photos next to each title.

Comic Strip Assignment
Subject: English
Grade Level: Grade 9, Academic
This assignment gets students to take a scene (or part of a scene) from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and modify it to fit another genre. For example, students could imagine the scene in a swashbuckling pirate movie. The students create their comic, write a paragraph on how their changes have impacted the scene, and present to the class.

Primary Source Seminars
Subject: History
Grade Level: Grade 12, University
Designed for the Grade 12 West and the World course, this assignment prepares students for seminars in history courses in their undergrad. Students are to read a primary source (typically 5 - 10 pages in length) and give a seminar style presentation to their peers. Two students are also assigned as "discussants" who come prepared with questions for the seminar leader.

Reading Current Events
Subject: Civics
Grade Level: Grade 10, Open
Designed for the Ontario Civics course, this assignment gets students to read current news articles and answer fact based questions. Some questions also get students to decode difficult words, or make inferrences based on the reporter's opinions.

Newspaper Articles
Subject: English
Grade Level: Grade 9, Applied
Designed for a Grade 9 applied class, this assignment gets students to write the news based on photos they find in the newspaper. Students are to look through the daily newspaper and choose a photo that intrigues them; they then write an article based around the story they imagine!
